Meet Mayor Jason Karr

Committed to Morris Plains, we’re focused on community, transparency, and progress for every neighbor.

About me

Jason Karr has spent nearly two decades serving the residents of Morris Plains, first as a member of the Borough Council beginning in 2007, and since 2019 as Mayor. Over that time, he has built a reputation as a steady, hands-on leader who shows up for his community — from council chambers to Main Street, from town events to the front steps of neighbors who just want to be heard.

Jason's approach to leadership has never been about politics for its own sake. It's been about Morris Plains: keeping the town safe, strengthening its downtown, supporting local schools and small businesses, and preserving the small-town character that makes this community special. He has worked to bring people together across the aisle, understanding that good local government isn't about party lines — it's about getting things done for the people who call Morris Plains home.

This year, Jason is running for re-election as an Independent, a decision that reflects exactly the kind of leadership he's always brought to the role: putting Morris Plains first, above party politics. It's a reminder that his loyalty has always been to the residents he serves, not to any political organization.

Outside of Borough Hall, Jason remains deeply rooted in the community he represents — a familiar face at local events, a steady voice on the issues that matter most to residents, and someone who genuinely believes that Morris Plains' best days are still ahead. As he seeks another term, Jason is asking voters to join him in continuing the work of building a stronger, more connected Morris Plains for everyone.
